A gang of notorious criminals have been arrested after they stripped a police DPO naked and cut off his ear.
A notorious gang that has been terrorising and causing havoc in the Nanka Community of Orumba North Council Area of Anambra State, has been dismantled by the police from the locality, but not without recording a casualty as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), for Ajali Division, was ambushed by the gang who stripped him naked and chopped off one of his ears, Vanguard reports.
According
to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), Akwuzu Okechukwu, the DPO had led his team to raid the den of
the gang and at the end of the raid, three leaders of the gang, Ifedilichukwu Nwankwo, Chidi Nwankwo and Udoye Kenechukwu,
were nabbed after previous attempts by the Force Criminal
Investigations Department (Force CID), Abuja and Zone 9 Headquarters,
Umuahia, had failed to apprehend them.
“On 17/02/2016 at about 9am hours, one Okechukwu Udezuka of Oraifite and Ebuka,
surname unknown, were shot dead at Tarzan, Nkpor, by a gang of armed
robbers. In the course of investigation, two persons namely Emamanuel Nwabudu, Chigozie Nweke, a.k.a Achito, were arrested.
The
suspects named one Ifedilichukwu Nwankwo of Nanka and others as those
that attacked and killed Okechukwu Udezuka and Ebuka. Every attempt to
arrest Ifedidilichukwu and his gang members proved abortive. The gang
burnt down a police Hilux Jeep during an arrest in the community.
On
20/06/2016, a team led by the DPO, was ambushed at Nanka by the gang
when they went to effect arrest. The DPO was robbed of his handset and
sums of money.
He was stripped naked and
one of his ears chopped off. Equally, his official uniform was torn to
shreds. The DPO, who narrowly escaped death, is currently receiving
treatment in an undisclosed hospital,” the statement said.
According
to the police spokesman, the arrest of the gang members is a big plus
for the police as they had been terrorizing Nanka and its environs for
years and were linked to several robberies, kidnapping, rape and murders
in the region.
