The Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State arrested eleven oil bunkers
dealing in illegal diversion of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol,
over the weekend.
The corps said the culprits were apprehended at different locations
in the State with branded petrol trucks containing 153,000 liters used
to convey the products without waybills.Adeyinka Ayinla, the State Commandant of the corps, told SaharaReporters that some of the criminals were nabbed with 'DAF Forte oil branded trucks' used in perpetrating the crime.
Mr. Ayinla said one of the trucks was nabbed with 40,000 liters of petroleum in Onipetesi on the Ore-Lagos-Benin expressway, Odigbo Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State.
He explained that the drivers, Lukman Adamu and Abubakar Bashir, were unable to present a waybill of the truck at the point of their arrest.
“This showed that the product was siphoned from a vandalized pipeline,” Mr. Ayinla told our correspondent.
He further disclosed that another DAF Forte oil branded truck with the registration number GWA 480 YM Abuja containing 36,000 liters was confiscated from some of the oil bunkers.
“We also seized one other Mack Truck with the registration number KTU 426 XA containing 33,000 liters of PMS in Ore, Odigbo LGA of Ondo State for the illegal diversion of PMS which was meant for one filling station in Satellite Town, Lagos,” he added.
He identified other suspects as Shittu Saheed, Saheed Taiwo, Akeem Alabi (motor boy) and Abiodun Ojo (driver), Kelvin Ozioko, Akhere Goodnews, Umar Abubakar, Masaudu Muhammed and Muhammed Yakubu.
Mr. Ayinla said the corps would carry out a proper investigation to identified their sponsors and vowed to charge them to court.
He warned that the corps would impound trucks conveying petroleum products without the original waybill.
The commandant vowed to continually wage war on the activities of oil bunkers and saboteurs who are crippling the economy of the State by destroying pipelines.
