Following the marquee signings of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba, the Portuguese tactician began the long-awaited exodus of the unwanted misfits at Old Trafford.
Donald Love, Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are just a few of the names who have departed the club in recent weeks, but now Mourinho is set to allow one of his most promising young players leave the club for a season.
Manchester United
Andreas Pereira, 20, had been expected to make to switch to a club within the top two divisions of English football to acclimatise to the tough environment that is the Premier League.
Moves to Sunderland and Middlesbrough had been touted, as had a loan switch to Championship side Fulham.
However, Pereira was at the centre of a tug-of-war between manager Slavisa Jokanovic and his recruitment team, after Fulham’s data analyst pulled the plug on a deal to bring the Brazilian to Craven Cottage, much to Jokanovic’s fury.
Manchester United
The midfielder had been personally recommended to the former Watford boss by Mourinho himself but has grown tired of waiting for the internal dispute to settle, and has seemingly moved away from the possibility of trusting Fulham with the player’s development.
Instead, Granada awaits Pereira in La Liga.
That’s according to the Telegraph, who claim that Pereira is part of Mourinho’s long-term plans at United but simply cannot afford him game time this season.
La Liga poses a very different challenge for Pereira and whilst it is a strong domestic league,  an experience in the Championship would certainly ready Pereira for life in Manchester United’s first team.
