Barely two months ago, Tomato was a scarce commodity across Nigeria. Four pieces was selling for about N200 – N500.
Farms across the country were hit with “Tuta Absoluta” also known as “Tomato Ebola”, a dangerous pest of tomatoes.
The price has now gone down, and a basket goes for between N2000 – N4500 at the farm markets. Previously it was selling for about N35,000.
While this is good news for the consumers, it’s a not so good news for farmers.
